Niš is the administrative, commercial, industrial, financial and cultural centre of the south-eastern part of the Republic of Serbia. It’s location is strategically important, linking Europe with Asia.

The city’s history is rich – serving as the birthplace of not one, but three roman emperors (including Constantine the Great). So too are its buildings.

The City of Niš approached Zumtobel Group in 2016. The brief was to provide creative exterior lighting for the façades of five significant public buildings: the Heritage Archive, National Library, National Theatre, Niš Symphonic Orchestra and the Museum of the City of Niš.

The buildings needed to be visible and stunning – bringing them to life in the hours of darkness. acdc had the answer.

When it came to lighting the National Theatre – it was all about the drama. The BLADE RGB surface mounted linear together with sister brand, Thorn’s Sensa controller provided exciting, dynamic and adaptable colour schemes.

For the other buildings, it was all about simplicity. BLADE, INTEGREX AND PLAZA created well-balanced and gentle lit effects, respecting both architecture and the surrounding environment.

Using acdc’s BLADE linears, the façades were washed in warm tones (3,000k) whilst our PLAZA floodlights picked out exquisite details on decorative pillars. The two types of luminaires (and discreet design) worked in harmony, accentuating the height, form and textures of these special buildings.
